If residing in the United States or any other country in which Red Cross instruction is given, pass the American Red Cross exam in Advanced First Aid and receive your certificate.

The American Red Cross no longer offers an Advanced First Aid Course or certificate, with the previous material likely incorporated into Standard First Aid. Therefore effectively this honor is obsolete in the USA and likely worldwide.

The Canadian Red Cross still offers Advanced First Aid as an 80 hour course. Participation requires completion of Standard First Aid. It is described as a "Broad course offering advanced first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for those typically designated as a workplace first aid responder. Course covers a variety of topics from basic (circulation and breathing emergencies, and prevention of disease transmission) to advanced (sudden medical emergencies and injuries to the head and/or spine), including instruction dedicated to understanding workplace legislation and responsibilities." This course appears to be far more in depth then the old AY Guide requirements but would certainly qualify the Pathfinder for this honor.

The Scouts developed Wilderness and Remote First Aid program that the American Red Cross and other organizations now offer. It is a 14 hour course, but does not line up with the old Advanced First Aid material.

Notes

The yellow oval on the older patches designated “advanced” level when this honor was taught as part of the old AY Guide curriculum. The yellow was the same color as the Guide insignia.

However, the Advanced Honors are no longer produced as separate patches, so Pathfinders who earn this Honor will now receive a star to affix to the First Aid - Standard level patch.
