"Choose My Plate" is the current version of the food pyramid as recommended by the US Department of Agriculture.  The guidelines can be found at http://www.choosemyplate.gov/
 
  
Note that the USDA is required to update these guidelines every five years.  The ''My Plate'' guidelines divides foods into six groups:

Because dietary choices are complex (and somewhat politicized), the USDA provides several charts on their web site for the recommended daily amounts.  Total food intake needs to be balanced against physical activity (less activity means less food should be eaten) as well as age and gender.
 
  
We recommend that you visit the USDA's [http://www.choosemyplate.gov/ Choose My Plate] site and look up the charts for the age, gender, and activity levels for the Pathfinders in your unit.  If possible, visit the web site with your Pathfinders present so that you can engage them in a meaningful discussion.

===Balanced Diet===

A balanced diet will give a person all the nutrients needed without providing too many of one type.  The majority of a persons food should be nutrient-dense rather than calorie-dense.

Consuming more calories than you burn will result in weight gain.  Consuming less calories than you burn will result in weight loss.  When the two are balanced, a person's weight will remain relatively constant.  For optimum health, adjust your weight until it is at a healthy level, and then maintain that weight.

Water is an important nutrient, without which life becomes impossible.  It is necessary for the elimination of waste from the body, for cooling the body, for the digestion of food, and many other functions.  Drink plenty of water.  It is difficult to drink more than your body can use.

Requisito 1

Por medio de las siguientes actividades, aprender la importancia de una dieta sana y el valor del agua en la alimentación:

  • La guía alimenticia MiPlato
  • La cantidad que se debe comer de cada grupo de alimentos diariamente
  • La importancia de una dieta equilibrada
  • La importancia de beber suficiente agua a diario (estos son los requisitos #1 y #6 de la especialidad de Nutrición).

Completar los requisitos de Amigo.



Debe completar los requisitos alistados arriba de esta página.

Requisito 5

Utilizar una aplicación de aptitud física, un podómetro o el registro de ejercicios proporcionado para completar 10,000 pasos o 30 minutos de ejercicio, 5 días a la semana durante 6 semanas.




El Programa de Desafío del Presidente para un Estilo de Vida Activo es un programa diseñado para poner en un equilibrio sano la actividad física de una persona y sus hábitos dietéticos. Puede visitar su página web (sólo disponible en inglés) para registrarse.

Live Healthy Bermuda [Vivir Sano Bermuda] es similar a Live Healthy America [Vivir Sano América] (sólo disponible en inglés). Patrocinan un Desafío de Bienestar de 10 semanas y otros programas.

En Canadá, ParticipACTION Teen Challenge [Desafío para Jóvenes de Participación] (sólo disponible en inglés) sería un programa apropiado.

Note que esto es un requisito de la sección Salud y Aptitud Física para todos los niveles avanzados. Sería mejor coordinar la participación como un grupo.
