Message definition (AY Honors/Mammals/Answer Key)
The skull of carnivora often has a ridge that runs along the top from front to back. This ridge is where the powerful muscles that work the jaw is attached to provide the maximum force. The Panthera leo (lion) has a jaw force of {{H:title|397.4 pounds force|1768N}}, Pathera tigris (Tiger) {{H:title|342.8 pounds force|1525N}}, Ursus Arctos (Brown Bear) {{H:title|169 pounds force|751N}}, and the Canis lupus (gray wolf) {{H:title|133 pounds force|593N}}. Because the canine teeth are so sharp in carnivora, these forces can result in enough pressure to break bones.
