Los bumeranes para cazar presas más grandes, como el canguro, también se usaron para presas pequeñas. Estos bumeranes vuelan en un camino casi recto cuando se lanzan horizontalmente y son lo suficientemente pesados como para derribar un canguro al impactar las piernas o las rodillas. Para cazar emú, el bumerán se lanza hacia el cuello, rompiéndolo.
