1. What is papyrus?
2. How many uses could the plant have in ancient times?
3. Which part of the plant is used to produce paper?
4. Why is soaking the strips from the stalk important for the process of making the paper?
5. With the help of an instructor, produce a piece of papyrus with a minimum size of 20x20 cm. Prove your abilities in doing the following:
- a. Peeling the stalks
- b. Cutting the papyrus reeds in strips
- c. Soaking the strips for the necessary length of time
- d. Rolling and flattening the strips
- e. Laying out the strips in two layers perpendicular to each other
- f. Pressing the layers with linen for the necessary length of time
- g. Polishing the paper with a burnishing stone
- h. You may paint or write something meaningful over your papyrus and display it at a Pathfinder event
