It is considered that there are 60 to 70 species of Porphyra worldwide and seven in the British Isles. Porphyra es un foliose género de algas rojas que comprende de aproximadamente 70 especies. Crece en la zona intermareal, normalmente entre el intermareal superior a la zona de chapoteo.
