Objectives

  • Value of persistence
  • Watch for opportunity
    • a cactus takes advantage of moisture when it's available
    • we should watch for opportunities to share the gospel and sustain others
  • God wants to sustain you

Materials

  • 3-10 live cacti specimens
  • Pictures of cacti to bring the number of species to 10
    • flash cards
  • Sketching paper, colored pencils
  • Cameras
  • gloves, pots, potting soil
  • Prickly pear to taste or aloe to apply to skin
  • cameras (or phones with cameras)

Prep time

  • 2 hours

Preparation

  • If you live in an area with cacti, plan a hike in an area where they grow
  • Otherwise
    • Bring in as many live specimens as you can for sketching/observation
    • Have a slide show for students to sketch the balance (to get up to 10 species)
    • Bring in an edible cacti (such as prickly pear) for tasting (req 2)

  • 2.5 hours
