Overview
The purpose of this honor is not only to learn how to tie a necktie, but appreciate that neckwear has an interesting history, there are a variety of necktie and scarf types (for men and women), and a plethora of ways to tie them. There is also the understanding of the spiritual guidance on how to dress well and not be prideful in your dress.
The Challenging Part
The most challenging requirement of this honor is probably this:
6. From memory, know how to tie at least four of the following knots plus one more knot of your research and choosing:
- a. Full Windsor (traditional necktie)
- b. Eldridge (traditional necktie)
- c. Trinity knot (traditional necktie)
- d. Shoelace knot (bowtie)
- e. Braided knot (scarf)
- f. Pretzel knot (scarf)
- g. Friendship knot (neckerchief)
- h. Hijab without a pin (hijab)
- i. Barrel knot (cravat tie)
- j. Double overhand knot (ascot tie)
