More Information The editors of this answer key have struggled to fully answer this question for several reasons. There is no standardized classification of snowflakes or types of snow into 10 types. Various types of snowflakes are generally mixed together and you can't tell the type without a microscope, something most would not pack on the trail. Weather's effects on the snow after the snow falls has far more relevance to the snowshoer than the type of snowflake (frozen, melting, powder etc).
