2. Name the state and the year it joined the union.
Michigan became a state on the 9th of September of 1850, the 31st state to join the Union.
3. Draw or find a picture of the following:
a. State flower
The Michigan state flower is the Apple Blossom (Pyrus coronaria, Linn).
b. State bird
The Michigan state bird is the American Robin (Turdus migratorius).
c. State tree
The Michigan state tree is the White Pine (Pinus strobus).
d. State animal
The Michigan state animal is the White-tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus).
e. State flag
4. Name the state song and motto.
The state song is "My Michigan", written by Giles Kavanagh and composed by H. O'Reilly Clint.
The motto is "Si quaeris peninsulam amoenam circumspice (English: If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you)."
5. Draw a map and show the capital, major cities, rivers, and lakes.
