It is described as a "Broad course offering advanced first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for those typically designated as a workplace first aid responder. Course covers a variety of topics from basic (circulation and breathing emergencies, and prevention of disease transmission) to advanced (sudden medical emergencies and injuries to the head and/or spine), including instruction dedicated to understanding workplace legislation and responsibilities." This course appears to be far more in depth then the old AY Guide requirements but would certainly qualify the Pathfinder for this honor.

The American red Cross no longer offers an Advanced First Aid Course or certificate. The American red Cross now offers a 16 hour course called Wilderness and remote first Aid. This course is to be taught in an experiential learning environment. It is strong on scenario driven experiences. It can be taught by any American Red Cross First Aid Instructor who has received additional training and authorization from the American Red Cross which can be done online.

The Red Cross has contact information on their web page which can be found at [http://www.redcross.org].  They do charge a fee, so be prepared for that.  To make the most use of the Red Cross training, study the answers in the [[Adventist Youth Honors Answer Book/Health and Science/First Aid, Standard|First Aid, Standard]] honor prior to attending the class. Wikibooks also has a [[First Aid]] book which has the same scope as this course.

More Information

Normally advanced honors require earning the basic honor, but the official version of the requirements for this honor don't say this. Without the basic honor patch where will you place your advanced star? We feel this is an oversight and that logic and honesty dictates you earn the basic honor if you sew on the basic patch.

Proposed correction:
Earn the Basic version of this Honor.
