AY Honors/Sheep Breeds/Lincoln

From Pathfinder Wiki

The Targhee sheep is a breed of sheep developed in 1926 by the Duboise, Idaho Research Station.

Targhee sheep, named after Targhee National Forest, are primarily bred for their wool. Their ancestors were Rambouillet ewes, with added genes from Corriedale and Lincoln sheep.

The desired traits were fixed on a flock level over several generations before the breed was released for commercial production.

The Lincoln is a breed of sheep from England that has been significantly altered by selective breeding in the later part of the eighteenth century. Cross-breeding with Leicesters improved the breed's meat production qualities.

The adult has a body weight of about 60 kg, its fleece can weigh up to 7 kg with a diameter of about 40 microns and a staple ranging up to 240 mm.
