Overview

This honor builds on the Rocks and Minerals Honor by taking youth deeper into the study of mineral identification, crystal structures, hardness, mineral uses, and geological terminology. It combines scientific knowledge with hands-on collecting and identification.

Learning this honor will help develop the Pathfinder's abilities in mineral identification, geological observation, scientific classification, field collecting, and practical understanding of Earth's natural resources, while also connecting the study of geology with the Adventist perspective on creation and nature.

The Challenging Part

The most challenging requirement of this honor is probably this:

2. Have a collection of 30 rocks and minerals properly named, 20 of which you have personally collected. Label with collector's name, date and locality in which it was found.
