Mark West in Spanish

I am sorry to hear about Mr. West and that since 2012 he has been resting in the Lord. I updated the information in Spanish but I cannot get the template to show. I noticed you have the template in English redirected to a userpage, and that might be why it's not picking up the translation. I don't know how to fix the link to the translation, though. Any suggestions? --w126jep (talk) 15:34, 28 August 2015 (EDT)

Yeah, that's a bit of a mess. It should never have been a template, and it probably shouldn't be on a user page either. I'm too tired to work on it tonight, but may tomorrow evening.
I met Mark at FFIC and earned Archery there. I began corresponding with him on the PF forum, talked him into developing the archery answers at the WB site, and helped him through the technology issues. He provided all the photos for the honor.
This week was Honors Week for my club, and my daughter taught archery. I mentioned to the class my work with Mark, and that he had taught the honor at FFIC, and as it turns out, one of my new staff members was friends with his wife. She told me that Mark had passed away a few years ago. I asked her for details so I could update his page. I'm planning to make an archery teaching patch (by adding the diamond like in Abseiling Instructor) to put on his site as kind of a memorial. He was a neat guy. --Jomegat (talk) 19:39, 28 August 2015 (EDT)
Now that I have rested a bit, I can explain what went wrong a little more cogently. Archery was one of the first chapters written in the wiki, and I was still learning the technology. I had learned that templates could be transcluded, but did not know that other pages could be as well. I made an "about the author" template for myself and one for Mark, since those are used in multiple chapters. A year later, one of the admins on WB saw that, and moved them to user space (which left the redirects). I ended up fixing mine, but I don't think I fixed anyone else's. So yeah - it worked for a while, it was not the correct way to do it, and it got half fixed. I have now removed the template and changed the Archery honors to directly transclude Mark's page directly. --Jomegat (talk) 18:46, 29 August 2015 (EDT)
Yeah, the translation now shows. I think it's great that you put the Archery instructor patch on his page. From the looks of it, he really was one of the best to teach this honor. Are there actually any requirements for the instructor diamond? Or is it that once you can teach the honor you can receive the diamond?
I know that PIAs are supposed to be able to instruct in several aspects, not only in seminars and trainings but also in several honors. I was just curious as to what the requirements for the diamond actually are. --w126jep (talk) 02:37, 31 August 2015 (EDT)
The diamond means you have taught the honor. --Jomegat (talk) 17:10, 1 September 2015 (EDT)
