Crustacean Photos
Are the photos you uploaded of the crustaceans yours? We need to get licensing information on them. --Jomegat (talk) 07:07, 1 December 2014 (EST)
They are all my own photos. I will only upload my own imagery. The options for licensing appear to have an odd limit in regards to those that are personally created (limited only to CopyLeft). I am willing to place them there if necessary, though I am not entirely sure that is how they should be marked. CopyLeft has some unique allowances and restrictions, but perhaps I am misunderstanding the licensing requirements.
- First, thank you - very nice work!
- Second, CopyLeft is what has made this Wiki possible. Most of the images used here came from (and are hosted by) the Wikimedia Commons, and a lot of the content was imported from Wikipedia. This was done before the NAD adopted the project. Because so much of the material is CopyLeft, it makes it a lot easier to license the work as a whole. Yes, this means that it can be used commercially as long as the contributors get attribution.
- The only images we have on the Wiki right now that do not fall under a CC-BY-SA license (or the like) are the Insignia images. The NAD allows those to be used in connection with PF ministries, and so any commercial user would have to strip those out (or get permission from the NAD) before offering it for sale.
- I can tell you that over a hundred of the photos here are my work, and that I upload them to the Wikimedia Commons and license them with CC-BY-SA. Many are used in Wikipedia, and I know of a few that have been used commercially (I've been contacted a couple of times for that, which I thought was pretty cool). I like to "give back" since CopyLeft is what made all of this possible.
- If you wish to choose another license, let me know, and I'll make inquiries (though I can't promise anything). Though really, it would make my life a lot easier if you were willing to adopt a CopyLeft license. --Jomegat (talk) 18:38, 1 December 2014 (EST)
I'll work with CopyLeft. Can't seem to see a way to modify to add the licensing info on the existing images. perhaps i am missing it in the edit files? anyway, let me know if an easy way. I'll add the licensing on future images. Have a lot to help build out some of these to make them more visually appealing, but also to hopefully encourage others to add their own images rather than rely on ones already on the internet - its more fun to find and build the image library individually - gets folks out there. I will be adding the dissection images for the shrimp and crab later this week or next week. We are teaching this honor this weekend, then I'll see how complicated it is to order from the SADivision - portuguese isnt exactly my first or second language :) R. - Thank you - that's very much appreciated. If you edit the page, you can add the licensing (and other information) manually:
== Summary ==
{{Information
|Description =Description of image
|Source ={{own}}
|Author =[[User:RABaker96|RABaker96]]
|Date =
}}
== Licensing ==
{{self|cc-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}}
If you like, I could add that to all the images. Thanks again. --Jomegat (talk) 21:27, 1 December 2014 (EST)
Welcome
I'm loving how you are putting in actual learning from your teaching of the honors. Thank-you and welcome. JadeDragon (talk) 20:27, 14 December 2014 (EST)
- Your work on Crustaceans is nothing short of brilliant. I may have to teach this to my club - whether I can get patches for it or not! --Jomegat (talk) 14:24, 19 December 2014 (EST)
Porifera and Cnidaria
Will be adding images for this in the next few days, just have to finish processing them. Is there a way to also add video or you-tube files? I have some video footage of Jellyfish and Ctenophores in motion that can aid in understanding and appreciating these organisms.
- Great, excellent work! Looking forward to the pictures. As to video or YouTube links, I'm not sure. I think you can provide the link to YouTube in the references but not actually put the video up in the Wiki. --w126jep (talk) 18:40, 9 March 2015 (EDT)
- There are extensions to provide video players in the Wiki, and I will look into this as soon as I can. If I can find an acceptable one and get it to work, I will let you know. Videos would be a great addition to the wiki, and would also be good for the Swimming honors. --Jomegat (talk) 18:45, 9 March 2015 (EDT)
<HTML5video width="520" height="320" autoplay="true" loop="true">bunny</HTML5video>
- See https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:HTML5video for instructions. I still need to play with it a bit to see if it can find files uploaded via the normal wiki upload process. Bunny came with the extension. --Jomegat (talk) 09:45, 16 August 2015 (EDT)
- That looks really awesome. I see that you also started putting some videos in many of the honors that require watching a DVD or video. I'll see if I can learn how to upload them later on. w126jep (talk) 20:40, 17 August 2015 (EDT)
- Yup! Found a few vids that have been removed from youtube too. If you have video files, just upload them - I'll have to move them into their proper location via ftp. I'll also need to convert them to a couple of different formats so that they are available on a wide variety of platforms (no format is available on every platform). It would be best to drop me a note if you upload one, or I might miss it. --Jomegat (talk) 20:48, 17 August 2015 (EDT)
Changing completion status
Where does one place the coding to change the completion status of honor question pages? I have finished updating the Porifera and Cnidaria and the Administration, and am currently embarking on the Raptors honor. On the latter, I am a bit confused about the question suggesting the owl pellet dissection be done online. That doesn't seem like a real way to dissect an owl pellet. There are synthetic owl pellets for those who are not interested in touching real bones, but even most real owl pellets are sterilized before sale.

- At the top of the page there is a template called "Honor_desc". It has a stage field (or if it doesn't, you can add one). Set that to stage=25 (or 50, or 75, or 100).
- Before you get too deep in the Raptor honor, you should know that when people submit new honors, the NAD requires that they also submit an answer key. Often, the requirements are edited by the NAD committee before the honor is voted, but the answer key is not. Thus, while the submitted key makes a good starting point, it does take some work to incorporate it into the Wiki. I would be happy to send that key to you if you like. Just email me at j omega t at j omegat t dot com (remove the spaces!) and I will be glad to send it to you.
- As for the online pellet dissection... I was confused about that too! Maybe there's something in the answer key (I haven't looked at it yet), or maybe we should bounce it back to the NAD for clarification. Thanks for your work here! --Jomegat (talk) 21:36, 31 March 2015 (EDT)
